New Moon Report
September 1999

On Saturday September 11, 1999 the New Moon was seen by Devorah Gordon and Nehemia Gordon from Jerusalem. The moon was first seen by Devorah at 17:52 and then by Nehemia at 17:52. After sighting with the naked eye the moon was seen through 10x50 binoculars also at 17:52. The moon remained visible to the naked eye until 17:59 at which time it was covered by clouds. Calculated sunset for Jerusalem was 17:51 but sunset was not observed due to clouds on the horizon.

New Moons in 1999 and 2000

Read last year's predictions

The "Religious Council" of the organization "Universal Karaite Judaism" has published a calendar with New Moon predictions for the next 13 New Moons. While the Calendar of the "Religious Council" does not follow the Abib, it does use a sound method of determining the dates of the New Moons.

In the list below the "Date of Predicted Visibility" is the date on which the New Moon is expected to be seen at sunset. New Moon Day always begins on the "Date of Visibility" at sunset and continues to the next day at sunset. For example, the New Moon will be visible on September 11, 1999 at sunset making New Moon Day the evening of September 11th and the day of September 12th (until sunset).

Those dates with an asterix next to them will be difficult observations but visibility may be possible, given good weather conditions. On all the other dates visibility is 100% certain, given good weather conditions:
